Amino acids are the building blocks which build muscle, repair tissue and are responsible for growth in the body. Athletes involved in heavy training have higher amino acid needs than regular people. While a high protein intake will help provide amino acids, taking the amino acids separately leads to faster delivery of amino acids to the body and can help boost the rate of muscle building, accelerate recovery from exercise and aid with sleep and immune health. With so many amino acids out there it can be difficult to know which ones to take. Some such as BCAA's and EAA's are ideal for building muscle and reducing muscle soreness while L-Glutamine is great for immune health, digestive health and its anti-catabolic effects (meaning it helps limit muscle breakdown).
